About the company

Charles River Wine Company is a Massachusetts-based specialty Import Company and Wholesale Distributor of fine wines. We import wines from most of the major wine producing regions. We also work with other Wine Importers and quality-focused wineries in the United States.

Charles River Wine Company is run by our corporate President and managing Partner Peter Sagansky. Our company was formed in 2004 during a period of major consolidation of the wholesale alcoholic beverage industry. We believe that our company has filled an important niche in our marketplace by sourcing excellent alternative wines to compete with the products sold by the industry giants.

We have succeeded in assembling a number of wine producers that are widely regarded as some of the leading producers of their origins. These producers anchor our portfolio and help to make Charles River Wine Company a distinctive distributor amongst the many wine wholesalers of Massachusetts.

We have taken strong measures to adjust to today's more challenging market conditions. Working closely with our winery and importer partners we have managed to lower prices on many of the wines in our program. We believe that high standards make a difference at every price point. We have carefully added more value-priced wines that are being well received in our marketplace.

At Charles River Wine Company we care about the condition of our wines. Our shipments into Massachusetts from domestic warehouses come exclusively in "working refer" trucks. Our shipments from other countries are packed in "working refer" containers whenever possible in all four seasons. In rare cases from certain origins where "refers" are not available we ship in thermal blankets and arrange for the containers to be loaded below the water line in the vessels. This is our approach regardless to the costs of the wines.
