What is Taste Indie?

Last year we were informed that there are something like 500 licensed wine distributors in New York and New Jersey. That means 500 portfolio options for you to choose from! That is a lot of options, but also a lot of pressure.
We were once buyers as well. We get it. We understand budget pressures, cash flow pressures, and we appreciate how hard you work to continue to work with your current supplier stable, while also making it a priority to be cutting edge by opening your doors and budgets to new suppliers...like Indie Wineries.

As former buyers, we’ve asked ourselves, “What can we do here at Indie to give a new client the greatest possibility to work with as many new Indies as possible, and yet still allow that client to respect their budget in that tough budget month of January?” We went outside the box and our answer was this...what if, for January only, for every individual wine...the deepest price for that wine, was placed on case one?

Example: Bocchino Langhe Nebbiolo Roccabella 2010

Normally: $186, $178/3, $170/5
Normal buy: $850 [$170cs x 5cs]

January and February: $170, net
Buy with January Taste Indie: $170

In essence, for the month of January only, we have taken away the pressure to buy in volume to get the best price. Thus, Taste Indie Pricing.

We want you to have the Indies you want. We want you to experiment with our portfolio, and really dive into it. And we want you to taste, and taste your customers on Indies as well!

So again, this pricing is in place- across the entire portfolio- for January only. Come February 1, 2012 deliveries, we will go back to our normal tiered pricing. Please use it to explore and grab the wines you want- and taste Indie Wineries.

We bring in Indies.

When we are at parties with friends and family and they hear we are in the wine business they sometimes ask us what types of wine we represent. Over the years, our answer has distilled down to a succinct and clear statement, ‘we bring in indies.’

With that word - indie- who we are, what we do, and the wines we represent are understood immediately. Sometimes, there is a follow up question, ‘what does indie mean for you?’ This is a question we have wrestled with and debated. Our ideals and values behind its definition have been tested.

For us, an indie wine is first a delicious wine. It is a wine made by an artisan producer with care and intention, and its story and production are told with honesty and transparency. Its craftsmanship is apparent. The love that went in to making it is clear. The producer’s hope is for the wine to be drunk and shared.
