About this event
Join us for a discussion on organic farming and winemaking with 4 women winemakers from Italy and Jill Matthiasson from CA. We will discuss the benefits and risks of farming organically, the challenges and associated costs, the types of treatments allowed, the use of SO2, and the resulting effect on the vineyards and wines. We will also taste wines from each of our 5 guests:
Elisa Bronca, Sorelle Bronca, Prosecco di Valdobbiadene
Matilde Poggi, Le Fraghe, Bardolino
Jill Matthiasson, Matthiasson, Napa
Angela Fronti, Istine, Chianti Classico
Cecilia Piccin, Grifalco, Aglianico del Vulture
See attached photo of Sorelle Bronca's organically farmed vineyard and their neighbors non-organically farmed vineyard.
About the company
We have been importing Italian wines from small artisan producers since 1994. Many of our producers farm organically and all farm in a sustainable manner. We import wines made from indigenous Italian grape varieties with clean distinctive flavors, bright acidity, and little to no use of small oak. We encourage the use of low but sufficient levels of SO2 and the use of screw-cap closures whenever possible to ensure our products stay fresh and show properly on a consistent basis. We import our wines directly from our wineries, i.e. there are no middlemen adding margin, and we distribute directly throughout the great state of California.
In 2016 we began importing traditional Italian spirits. We look for producers working with the highest quality ingredients, making all their infusions in house and with absolutely no artificial flavorings. We encourage you to try our Vermouth and spirits with a splash of soda and citrus peel or in your favorite classic cocktail recipe to see how the ingredients shine. Salute!
