Love for the Land
Gil Family Estates is a family owned group of Spanish estate wineries. Today, the Gil Family owns 4,365 acres of vineyards spread across 10 appellations (Protected Designations of Origin, D.O.) and 11 wineries in Spain that each specialize in the native varietals of their region.
The first winery, Bodegas Juan Gil, was founded in 1916 by Juan Gil Gimenez, whose goal was to produce world-class wines from the indigenous grapes of Jumilla, Spain. Through five generations and over 100 years, the Gil Family has continued to fulfill that vision by showcasing the native varietals that reflect the unique qualities of the land, grapes, and winemaking tradition.
Through the last few decades, the fourth generation, great-grandchildren of Juan Gil Gimenez, have invested in acres of old-vine vineyards planted with the native varietals of each region throughout some of Spain's lesser known appellations, as well as those that have garnered popularity and prestige. Their focus on seeking the highest quality fruit has allowed them to create a diverse portfolio of varietals and styles, and to produce wines that offer value in every price category.
Gil Family Estates continuously invests in their wineries, focusing keenly on sustainability and reducing the impact of the winery on the surrounding environment, including using solar power, composting by-product, and optimizing water use. All vineyards are dry-farmed and hand-harvested, without the use of pesticides or herbicides - the way they have been cultivated for generations. Respecting the land is the way to ensure it continues to thrive for generations to come.
